In order to prepare a quality system for Comprehensive Distance Learning, the first day for students will be delayed to Tuesday, September 8, 2020. When the metrics and the state allow it, we will likely transition first to the hybrid learning model. Grades K-3 may return to hybrid in-person learning sooner than older students. There will be a transition period when we move from one model to another. There will be plenty of time for staff and families to prepare for the change. For those unwilling to return to in-person learning, the district will continue to provide comprehensive distance learning. It is possible that a different group of teachers will work with students who choose a full online option after hybrid learning begins. If infection rates increase again and the metrics change while we are in the hybrid model, we will revert to CDL until infection rates meet the safety criteria. The final phase will be everyone back in the school building when it is safe to do so. We do not know the timeline for any of these stages at this time. We appreciate the feedback that was provided in the spring in response to the emergency teaching that occurred remotely from March to June. We have used that feedback along with the Oregon Department of Education guidance to create a plan for Comprehensive Distance Learning this fall. Our improved distance learning plan includes: · Predictable schedules and routines for daily learning activities · High quality direct instruction and ongoing support for students by teacher(s) · Daily synchronous learning for students (e.g., Zoom meetings, Google Hangouts, or phone calls with staff) · Increased academic rigor · Progress monitoring and assessment to gauge student progress · Clear and consistent grading practices · Clarity around attendance and participation · Counseling and mental health services · Family engagement and partnerships Learning for students will take place on Chromebooks or iPads using Google Classroom, Seesaw and district digital learning curriculum. We have Chromebooks or iPads available for check-out for all students who do not have one, as well as training for families on how to use devices effectively. Chromebook check-out will take place on; JH/HS 6 th Grade – Monday, August 31 – 9 am to 7 pm 7 th and 8 th Grade – Tuesday, September 1 – 9 am to 7 pm 9 th and 10 th Grade – We dnesday, September 2 – 9 am to 7 pm 11 th and 12 th Grad e – Thursday, September 3 – 9 am to 7 pm Friday, September 4 – Available 8 am to 3 pm for any who still need a device DGS Kindergarten and SLC – Monday, August 31 – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm 1st and 2nd Grades– Tuesday, September 1 – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm 3rd Grades– Wednesday, September 2 – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm 4th and 5th Grades– Thursday, September 3 – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, September 4 - Drive through support or pick-up 8:00 am to 12:00 pm *Parents with more than one child in school may pick up at any of the above times. We know you have many questions about what school will look like this fall. We have committees of educators working on these topics in order to get answers for you quickly. Look for information about each of these topics and training opportunities the week of August 17th. Topics will include: · Chromebook check out · Online registration · Orientation · Schedule and details for distance learning · Parent meetings · Family resources training This shift to online learning is not ideal. We recognize the challenges these circumstances present. Please know that we are committed to the success of all of our students and families during these difficult times and are preparing to help all of our students navigate through this unprecedented time. In the meantime, if your family needs social emotional or mental health support please contact 503.864.2215 and district staff will be in contact about your family’s needs.
